And all of us go through the hair shedding phase. Maintaining healthy hair takes efforts, be it man or woman. We shed an average of 100-150 strands of hair every day, on average. So, don’t freak out. Follow the 10 tips given below, and you are guaranteed to have the Rapunzel hair you are dreaming about!

1. Balanced diet

Healthy hair requires a healthy diet. If your hair is short on the required nutrients, you will end up losing hair more than the average person. Food rich in protein and antioxidants is essential for healthy hair and scalp. Vitamin supplements can enhance hair quality, as well. Foods such as Eggs (provide protein and biotin), green leafy vegetables, berries, fatty fish, and nuts are known to be beneficial for hair.

Remember your childhood years when you used to have oiled hair all the time? Yes, those were the golden days. Though you don’t need to oil your scalp daily, try to do it as frequently as possible. The scalp produces more dandruff and results in increased hair loss. In some cases of untreated oily hair, the hair follicles get blocked and hinder the natural growth of hair. So, getting excess oil out is also important for healthy hair.

 

5. Protection Is Important

Protection of hair from sun, dirt, and rain is always necessary. Excessive exposure to these can lead to increased dirt build-up, dry scalp, and infections. These add up and consequently result in more hair loss. Always cover your hair with a cap or umbrella when going out. Covering your hair with a dupatta or a scarf will do as well. But in any case, have a layer of protective cover on your hair.

 

6. Only Condition Is To Use Conditioner Regularly

Conditioning is the most important hair regime that one should follow. If you have frizzy hair, a lack of conditioning might be the reason for it. Conditioners moisturize the hair and lock the moisture in. It is not meant for the scalp, but rather the shaft. Using conditioner on the scalp will make your hair oilier. Start by applying the conditioners 1-2 inches away from the scalp. And let it sit for 2 minutes. Rinse with COLD water. You are bound to have shiny and frizz-less hair.

 

7. Don’t Be Hard On Your Hair

Using tight hair-ties can affect your hair as it causes hair-fall. Close hair-ties pull your hair tightly. This creates friction and causes breakage. Before going to bed, redo your hair in a loose braid or a loose bun. Do not leave your hair open as it will knot your hair. And in the morning, you will have to struggle a lot combing your hair. Tight braids can cause permanent damage to your hair. Also, it can result in a receding hairline. So, keep your hair in a loose braid (NOT PONYTAIL) in bed.

 

8. Mask Your Hair

Treat your hair with a mask at least once a month. You can use homemade as well as artificial masks. For homemade masks, you can make a mayonnaise mask (for super soft hair), banana mask (for smooth hair), egg mask (for shiny and silky hair). You can also use curd on your hair. Curd mixed with aloe vera and lemon can do wonders.

 

9. Say NO to Heat

Bouncy curls and sleek straight hair might be one of your indulgences. But even if you use a heat protectant, regular use of heat on hair does more damage than imaginable. ALWAYS let your hair air-dry and keep the use of blow dryers to a minimum. Blow dryers also release heat to your hair and cause damage. For curly hair, you can use different techniques to sport them naturally (like one given below).

The proper way to brush your hair is from tip to scalp. Start at the tip of your hair and detangle it. Gradually move upwards. Use a wide-bristled comb. And most importantly, NEVER brush wet hair. It is one of the most common causes of hair fall.
